Match report Boyne Hills chances in division 2B are now out of their own hands after a poor fielding display and an abject batting collapse saw them lose to Thatcham Town on Saturday.

Hill lost an important toss and were asked to field. Andley Adams struck in the first over and then twice more in his opening spell to reduce the visitors to 35-3. Thatcham then dug in to graft out a score led by Duncan Johnson. Saj Hussain(2-39) and Ronayne Churchill Browne bowled good containing spells and the game reached something of a stalemate before eventually Johnson and Rochfort threw caution to the wind. At this point Boyne Hill lost the plot in the field dropping 4 catches and giving away runs with some shoddy ground fielding. Sahan Wijesekera bowled well at the death to take 2-24 and Adams returned to end up with 4-56 but Johnson made a fine 78 and Rochfort hit some lusty blows to end up with 50 not out. Thatcham ended up on 200-9 which was about 30 runs more than looked likely for most of the innings.

Thatcham opened with 2 left arm spinners but Hill made a positive start with Tom Mellor hitting some early boundaries and Raoul Cheema batting solidly. Gradually the spinners,in particular Chris Bird exerted some control and the run rate stagnated. Thatcham still couldnt make the breakthrough and eventually the new ball was taken. Bird continued to wheel away and with the required rate climbing the opening partnership was broken at 75 with Mellor stumped for 46. With plenty of firepower in the middle order the game was very much there to be won but none of the middle order were able to get on top of Bird. Some poor shot selection and a couple of stupid run outs saw Hill collapse and although Cheema began to unfurl some fine shots all round the wicket Hill never really managed to put another partnership together. Cheema was eventually stumped for a fine 74 and Hill dismissed for 157 to lose by 43 runs. Bird eventually took 6-74 from 22 overs, just reward for a fine spell of bowling.

Fortunately for Boyne Hill, Chesham also lost, so Hill now trail them by 2 points which makes the tosses next week in both games potentially very important. Boyne Hill are away to Reading 2s with Chesham having on paper an easier game at home to Bagshot.
