Match report Boyne Hill 2nd XI took a giant step towards promotions with a superb victory over second placed Royal Ascot in a game which looked to be lost at one stage to go 24 points clear at the top of division 6a with 6 games remaining.

Having lost the toss on a soft wicket the Hill were put into bat by the home side and were soon in trouble as the ball was swinging around early on. The Hill slumped to 37 for 4 before Richie O'Reilly and Gurvinder Singh began to rebuild the innings. But in difficult conditions, wickets continued to tumble and Boyne Hill crept to 113 all out from 35.3 overs.

With a small total on the board to defend, the Hill took the gamble of opening with the old ball which paid off when Abraham picked up a wicket in his first over and then Paul Farnborough followed suit. Abraham picked up another wicket before Royal Ascot began to claw their way back into the game. At 111 for 5 with only 3 runs required to win the game, Ascot looked to have the game sown up before the reintroduction of Farnborough who had one of the Ascot batsman out caught trying to with the game with one shot. This breathed a bit of life back into the Hill side, but no one could have dreamed about what was to follow.

Farnborough then sent down a wide delivery meaning Ascot required only 2 to win before turning a delivery from outside of off back to hit the top of off stump and then followed up two balls later with a further wicket trapping the Ascot batsman LBW.

Ascot now required 2 to win with only 2 wickets remaining and the panic began to set in. A crazy single resulted in the run out of Feely for 41 who had held the Ascot innings together. Boyne Hill had the opportunity to run the batsman out at the wicket keepers end, but keeper Kasavan through the ball to the bowlers end to remove Feely.

Farnborough then trapped the number 11 batsman LBW to ignite huge celebrations amongst the Boyne Hill side who had removed the final 5 Ascot wickets for only 1 run to win the game by 1 run.
